Texas' minimum wage up for debate at the Capitol

(Austin/KJCE) Like other states, Texas is set to take a look at its minimum wage in this legislative session.

Monday, the House Committee on Business and Industry is set to consider nine different bills that have been filed, all aiming to raise the state's minimum wage from $7.25 per hour, which is also the federal minimum wage. Some of the bills filed will change the minimum to $10.10 per hour; at least one proposal aims to raise it to $15 per hour.

The federal minimum wage last changed in 2009; currently 29 states plus the District of Columbia have a higher minimum wage.

The proposals are unlikely to make it through the House; similar measures failed in 2015 by a wide margin.
