Police exchange gunfire with armed suspect in SW Austin

AUSTIN (KJCE) -- A man in his 20s is recovering from his injuries after a brief standoff with Austin Police early Monday morning.

Police responded to the 6200 block of La Naranja Lane, near Escarpment Boulevard, after receiving a 9-1-1 call from a woman saying her 23-year old son was inside the home threatening his father with a gun and several rounds of ammunition.

Officers and an APD helicopter responded to the scene around 12:40 a.m. The woman and her husband made it out of the home safely, before police heard shots inside. The suspect moved towards the door, and exchanged gunfire with officers at 12:48 a.m.

The injured suspect went back inside the house before eventually coming outside and surrendering to officers. He was transported to a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries, and released into police custody.

Two officers are on administrative duty following the incident, per standard department policy. This is the fourth officer-involved shooting of 2018 and the second one in a week.
