MANOR (KJCE) - A man was arrested Saturday in Manor after leaving his puppy in a hot car while he went shopping.

Police were called to the Walmart in Manor just after 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, after other shoppers noticed the puppy panting and crying in the locked vehicle. At the time, the temperature was 99 degrees with a heat index naer 109. Police used a tire iron to unlock the vehicle by reaching through a partially-opened sun roof.

About 30 minutes later, 20-year old Chandler Allen Bullen exited the store. He told officers he did not leave the car running because he "did not want to waste gas". Bullen was arrested and charged with cruelty to a non-livestock animal, a class A misdemeanor.
