Lockhart ISD teacher arrested for improper relationship with student
(Lockhart/KJCE) Lockhart ISD officials announced Monday they have suspended a Lockhart High School teacher for having an improper relationship with a student.
Lockhart Police say 27-year old science teacher Sarah Fowkles, who has worked for the Lockhart district since October 2014, was "engaged in sexual contact" with a 17-year old male student. An arrest warrant was issued on Monday and Fowkles turned herself in.
District officials say that school administrators received a report on March 10, just before the district's spring break; upon that report, district officials were immediatley notified and relayed the information to local law enforcement and Child Protective Services.
LISD Superintendent Susan Bohn, in a statement, said that "Lockhart parents entrust their children to us every day, and it is something we do not take lightly. Student safety is the district’s most important priority. As soon as we learned of the report, we acted swiftly to involve law enforcement and CPS to conduct a thorough investigation. The district does not and will not tolerate any improper communication or contact between a teacher and child."
